Outdoor adventures & professional fishing guide

Sometimes the answers you’re looking for aren’t found indoors.

I’ve spent a lifetime outdoors — as an Eagle Scout, outdoorsman, fisherman, camper, hiker, backpacker and wilderness enthusiast.

There is something about standing on a mountain, sitting beside a fire beneath a sky filled with stars, walking a trail miles from civilization, or watching the sun rise over an open ocean that changes your perspective.

The noise disappears.

The phone stops ringing.

The deadlines, meetings and everyday distractions begin to feel farther away.

And suddenly, you can hear yourself think again.

Today, I combine those skills with decades of coaching, leadership, teaching and spiritual exploration to create outdoor experiences that can be much more than recreation.

This is adventure with purpose.

Whether we’re chasing giant tuna offshore, hiking into the backcountry, sitting around a campfire or simply spending a quiet day on the water, nature can provide something increasingly difficult to find in modern life:

Space.

  • Space to think.
  • Space to reconnect.
  • Space to challenge yourself.
  • Space to talk.
  • And sometimes, space to find answers.

Built on a lifetime of outdoor experience

Becoming an Eagle Scout helped establish many of the principles that have guided me throughout my life:

  • Leadership
  • Preparedness
  • Responsibility
  • Service
  • Self-reliance
  • Teamwork
  • Problem-solving
  • Respect for the natural world

The journey through Scouting also developed practical outdoor skills that have remained with me throughout my life — including camping, hiking, backpacking, navigation, first aid, outdoor cooking, knots and practical fieldcraft, trip planning, environmental stewardship, emergency preparedness and wilderness problem-solving.

But one of the greatest lessons was much simpler:

Be prepared.

That principle applies whether you’re heading into the wilderness, onto the ocean — or into an uncertain chapter of life.

Professional fishing experiences

From a quiet freshwater morning to the fish of a lifetime

Fishing has been one of my lifelong passions.

I offer and help coordinate fishing experiences covering a wide variety of environments and styles, including freshwater fishing, light tackle, inshore fishing, coastal fishing and offshore big-game adventures.

An experience can be designed around the person.

Beginners

For a beginner, that may mean learning the fundamentals: equipment, knots, casting, reading water, lure and bait selection, fish behavior, conservation and becoming comfortable on the water.

Experienced anglers

For experienced anglers, it can mean something entirely different.

Let’s go find the giants.

Through a network of professional captains, guides and outdoor experts, I can help create serious fishing adventures — including offshore trips targeting giant tuna and other appropriate big-game species, depending on location, season, regulations and conditions.

The objective isn’t simply to put a rod in someone’s hands.

It’s to create an experience they’ll remember.

Backcountry

Hiking, camping, backpacking & wilderness

Not every adventure needs an engine.

Sometimes we walk.

Outdoor experiences can be designed around day hiking, camping, wilderness backpacking, outdoor skills, navigation, campcraft, outdoor cooking, preparedness, survival fundamentals and responsible backcountry travel.

Some outings can be physically challenging.

Others can be deliberately peaceful.

A corporate executive looking to disconnect for two days requires a very different experience from a youth group learning outdoor fundamentals or an experienced adventurer looking for a backcountry challenge.

The experience should fit the people — not the other way around.

Wilderness skills & self-reliance

Technology has made life easier.

It has also made many of us extraordinarily dependent upon it.

There is something empowering about learning how to function comfortably when the conveniences disappear.

Outdoor programs can incorporate practical instruction in areas such as:

  • Preparedness
  • Navigation
  • Shelter considerations
  • Water and food planning
  • Weather awareness
  • Fire safety
  • Knots
  • First aid fundamentals
  • Equipment selection
  • Situational awareness
  • Emergency decision-making
  • Leave No Trace principles

The purpose isn’t to pretend we’re contestants on a survival television show.

It’s to develop something far more useful:

Competence creates confidence.

When you learn to remain calm, assess your situation, use the resources available to you and make good decisions under pressure, you’re developing skills that extend far beyond the wilderness.

Offshore

The ocean has always been one of my greatest teachers

There are few places where human beings are reminded of their scale in the universe quite like the open sea.

Miles offshore, surrounded by water, beneath an enormous sky, many of the things that seemed overwhelming on land suddenly become smaller.

The ocean demands respect.

It teaches patience.

It teaches adaptability.

It teaches you that you cannot control everything around you.

You can prepare.

You can navigate.

You can make good decisions.

But ultimately, you must learn to work with forces much larger than yourself.

There’s a life lesson in that.

Actually, there are hundreds.

Adventure meets reflection

My outdoor experiences can incorporate another dimension for people who want it.

Reflection.

I’m not interested in forcing spirituality into someone’s fishing trip or turning every hike into a seminar.

  • Sometimes fishing should simply be fishing.
  • Sometimes friends should laugh around a campfire.
  • Sometimes you should climb the mountain simply because the view from the top is spectacular.

But for individuals and groups seeking something deeper, I can incorporate elements of coaching, mindfulness, reflection, gratitude, personal development and spiritual exploration into the experience.

We can use time in nature to explore questions that become difficult to hear amid everyday noise:

  • Where am I going?
  • What am I carrying that I no longer need?
  • What matters to me now?
  • Where is my life out of balance?
  • What am I afraid to change?
  • What does success actually mean to me?
  • What can nature teach me about patience, uncertainty and acceptance?

And sometimes we don’t need to ask anything.

We simply sit quietly.

Watch the water.

Listen to the forest.

Look at the stars.

And allow the answers to come when they’re ready.

Who these experiences are built for

Corporate & team retreats

Imagine replacing another hotel conference room with an experience people will still be talking about years later.

Outdoor retreats can be created for corporate teams, leadership groups, sales organizations, sports teams, nonprofits and other organizations. Depending upon the group, an experience might combine outdoor adventure with leadership, communication, teamwork, resilience, decision-making, problem-solving, coaching and reflection.

  • A day on the water can reveal team dynamics surprisingly quickly.
  • So can setting up camp.
  • So can navigating a trail.

When titles and office walls disappear, people often begin relating to one another differently. That’s where genuine team building can happen.

Experiences for youth

My Eagle Scout background gives youth outdoor experiences special meaning for me.

Programs for Scouting organizations, schools, youth groups and community organizations can emphasize age-appropriate outdoor skills alongside leadership, teamwork, responsibility, preparedness, conservation, confidence and respect for nature.

The goal isn’t merely teaching a young person how to tie a knot, pitch a tent or catch a fish.

It’s helping them experience the confidence that comes from thinking:

I didn’t know I could do that.

Those moments can stay with someone for life.

Individuals & small groups

A memorable day of fishing, an immersive wilderness adventure, or several days completely removed from the noise of everyday life.

Experiences can be built for one person, a family or a small group — from a quiet freshwater morning to a backcountry challenge, with as much or as little reflection and coaching as you want included.

The experience is designed around who you are, what you’re looking for and where you want the journey to take you.

From the backcountry to the open ocean

No one person can be an expert on every mountain, river, ocean and wilderness area on Earth.

That’s why I don’t pretend to be.

I work with a network of professional guides, captains and outdoor experts around the world.

For specialized experiences, we can assemble the appropriate team for the environment and adventure — combining my role as a guide, coach and experience facilitator with local knowledge and specialized professionals appropriate to the activity and destination.

That allows us to think bigger.

  • Giant tuna offshore
  • Remote fishing destinations
  • Backcountry retreats
  • Off-the-grid experiences
  • Corporate adventure retreats
  • Personal reflection journeys
  • Small-group wilderness experiences

The destination and difficulty can change dramatically.

The philosophy remains the same:

Get outside. Get off the grid. Reconnect.

  • With nature.
  • With your team.
  • With the people you love.
  • With your purpose.

And perhaps most importantly —

with yourself.

Whether you’re looking for a memorable day of fishing, an immersive wilderness adventure, a corporate retreat, a youth outdoor experience or several days completely removed from the noise of everyday life, let’s create an experience around who you are, what you’re looking for and where you want the journey to take you.

  • Fish
  • Hike
  • Explore
  • Reflect
  • Reconnect

Let’s build your next adventure.
