Editorial Policy

How PokerJoey decides what to publish, how mistakes get fixed, and who pays for what.

Who writes here

Every article on this site is written by Joey Gargiulo unless a guest byline says otherwise. There is no anonymous content, no ghostwritten filler, and no syndicated articles republished under my name.

I am a professional poker player, author and coach. What I write comes from playing the game for a living, coaching players one to one, and paying attention to the people around the table. Where a claim rests on something other than my own experience, I say so and link the source.

How articles are researched and written

Opinion is labelled as opinion. Analysis is labelled as analysis. Guides are labelled as guides. You should never have to guess whether you are reading reporting or a personal view, so every article carries a visible label near the headline.

Facts about tournaments, results and people are checked against primary records — Hendon Mob, official tour reporting, or the person themselves — before publication. Where a figure is disputed or uncertain, the article says it is uncertain rather than picking the most dramatic number.

I write about real players by name. When a piece is critical, I aim at the argument or the behaviour, not the person, and I try to represent the other side fairly enough that they would recognise it.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, I want to fix it. Substantive corrections — a wrong fact, a misattributed quote, a mischaracterised position — are made in the article itself, and the article shows an updated date so you can see it changed.

Silent edits to change the meaning of a published piece are not acceptable. Typos and formatting get fixed quietly; substance does not.

To request a correction, use the contact page and include the article and the specific claim. Corrections from the person being written about get priority.

Funding, affiliates and independence

This site makes money from coaching and books. Those are my own products, and articles that mention them say so plainly.

I do not accept payment for coverage. No article on this site has been bought, and no company has editorial input over what appears here. If that ever changes — a sponsored post, an affiliate arrangement, a paid review — it will be disclosed at the top of the specific article, not buried in a policy page.

Use of AI

The ideas, arguments and judgements in these articles are mine. I use software for ordinary editorial work — spelling, grammar, formatting, tidying a clumsy sentence — the same way any writer uses a word processor.

I do not publish machine-generated articles under my byline, and I do not use AI to invent quotes, facts, statistics or events.

Responsible play

Poker is a game played for money and it can cause real harm. Nothing on this site is a promise of profit, and nothing here should be read as financial advice.

Strategy content assumes you are playing with money you can afford to lose, within limits you set before you sit down. If gambling is hurting you or someone close to you, help is available and free: in the US, call or text 1-800-GAMBLER, or visit ncpgambling.org. In the UK, contact GamCare on 0808 8020 133.

Content on this site is intended for adults of legal gambling age in their jurisdiction.
